The Legend of Myosotis, 'Don't Forget Me ...'

The legend of myosotis… a lovely tale from Alsace

The Legend of Myosotis - Guest House in Moselle Once upon a time, near Brisach, a noble knight set out on a crusade. He took the road to Speyer to join Bernard of Clairvaux and passed, as evening fell, by a castle near the banks of the Rhine.
Hospitality was offered to him for the night.
The lord of the castle had a daughter of exceptional beauty named Berthe. The chemistry between the brave knight and the tender young girl was undeniable.

The farewells the next morning were emotional, and they made many promises of love and fidelity.
During her knight's absence, Berthe would sit by the window, stitching, her eyes lost on the misty banks of the Rhine.
Months passed, and one day, the knight was able to return home. The banks of the Rhine…finally… the castle, the silhouette of Berthe.
The lovers fell into each other’s arms, and the preparations for their wedding began.

The Myosotis, a lovely plant and a tale from Alsace told in Zetting The day before their wedding, they sat by the Rhine and indulged in their daydreams.
With a smile, Berthe turned to her fiancé and asked him, in memory of that exquisite day, for some of those lovely blue flowers that grew by the water's edge.
The knight hurried to please beautiful Berthe, approached the water, and bent down to pick the little flowers. But his foot slipped, and losing his balance, he fell into the river, which closed over him.

With superhuman effort, he managed to return to the surface and launched with one hand already stiffened by the cold, the fateful bouquet.
With one last sigh, he cried to his beloved, “Don’t Forget Me!”
Swept away by the waves, he disappeared forever.
Since that time, these lovely little blue, pink, or white flowers called Myosotis have been nicknamed "Vergiss mich nicht" or “vergiss mein nicht” or simply,
Don’t Forget Me…
